Things about me:

• Grew up in Shanghai; currently based in NYC, with travel to SF
• Early career at Uber (international and HQ) when the company was 300 strong; Uber China's founding team
• Led various functions at Modern Animal, now ~30 locations in the western US
• Recently emerged from a 18-mo sabbatical of travel, study, and reconnection
• Favorite (re)reads include Deutsch, 3BP, and Siddhartha
• Working on reading the new translation of The Karamazov Brothers
• I don’t aim to be as brilliant as the minds I’ve learned from, so sharing my learnings is my small way to contribute

Things I believe:

• First-hand experience first
  • The world is full of recycled information and inherited hierarchies. Most of what we think we know is secondhand
  • You can't outsource understanding—go see for yourself
• Good solutions are hard to vary
  • They're specific to your constraints
  • If something applies everywhere, it explains little
  • Simplicity is derived from complexity
• Take your work seriously, but not yourself
  • Obsess over the problem, with an open mind
  • Better to set extremely high standards and fail than aim low and settle
